Working with advertising agency ‘Cowboy International’, we designed and concepted a huge initiative for Adweek’s relaunch. The ‘Big Claims’ campaign is a play on the over-the-top language used in ridiculous infomercials. The campaign consisted of an array of print ads, direct mail, e-mail, a landing page and banner ads. Sabrina Crow, senior vice president for the marketing and media group at Nielsen Business Media in New York, has some nice things to say in  the New York Times article about the campaign (Yeah that’s right, NYT). You should check it out. Read more »

Speak Up is No More

speakup

Sadly, an old favorite design blog of ours is shuttering it’s windows and locking up all of the doors. You can read more about it here. The site, created by design couple extraordainare Armin Vit and Byrony Gomez-Palacio, was started in 2003 as home for critical thinking for the traditional designer. Over the years we have enjoyed taking part in the monthly ‘Word Its’, a couple of which made into the super fun ‘The Word It Book‘. We also had a great time contributing to their poster contest a couple years back that was judged by Art Chantry, Ellen Lupton and James Victore. You can seeone of our submissions here. I recall poster numero uno was a hot topic leading to some interwebs style yelling. Oh youth. Word it has found it’s own home over here. They also have a couple of other enjoyable sites like Brand New, Quipsologies and The Design Encyclopedia. All-in-all those kids at Under Consideration have done a great job and we at Ziegenhagen Studio thank and salute them.

The Design Entrepreneur

I just bought ‘The Design Entrepreneur‘ by Steven Heller and Lita Talarico. It was unsurprisingly well designed and came in a super cool die-cut hard case. The design of the site and book were by Landers | Miller. There quite a few interesting case studies with designers like Maria Kalman, James Victore and Stefan Bucher. I won’t go into some in-depth review. The folks over at Core 77 have one here. I will however note a small complaint. As beautiful and star studded as it was I found myself being a bit disappointed. I was really expecting something I could learn from. Maybe specific production tasks, how some of the artists found vendors, etc. But in reality, it was a lot little comments about ‘drive’ and anecdotes about how the designers got started. I am still glad I bought for it’s overall great design but as a tool for the design entrepreneurs out there it fell a little short.  You can buy it yourself over yonder.

A Baby is Born

No no no! Not that kind of baby. We can hear our moms calling now. We have a new site up. Yup, the one you’re looking at right now. It’s still a bit gooey and needs some work but after very busy year working with great clients like Focus Features and Shu Uemura we finally have something up. We’ll continue writing copy, fixing bugs, adding forms and tweaking the design but for now here you go. The very betaish version. If you see typos or anything that is generally stupid let us know.

Thanks,

Mike Ziegenhagen

Monster

Working with advertising agency ‘Cowboy International’, we scored a couple of fun projects for Monster.com. The first was a co-branded site with Monster and eBay. Monster was looking for way to help powerhouse eBay sellers find people to help them with their burgeoning businesses. We took piles and piles of boring data that and “how-to” documents that were getting ignored by users and created a fun and engaging site that has been a huge success for Monster. The second site was a contest co-branded with  Monster and Vocation Vacations. Users got a chance to upload their own videos telling us why they should win a chance to get a dream job vacation package from Vacation Vocations. Yup, another hit.

The studio volunteered design time for a worthy cause. Medwiser is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in youth around the world. We provided them with design comps for their team to build with Joomla and a little overall advice. Ryan over at Studio LLC helped out with some greatly appreciated HTML/CSS work. We think it should be a big improvement for them and will help to build the grassroots movement against HIV/AIDS. The site is currently in development and we are looking forward to seeing how the Medwiser team of volunteers make out with the final site.

Mmmmmmm cheesburgers. We got a exciting opportunity to work with Studio LLC and MRM worldwide on a pitch for for some tasty looking new Applebee’s burger. Based on the great work MRM was doing for their ‘Real Burgers’ campaign, we provided them with concepts for a landing to page to supplement the campaign. The campaign was focused on real, quality, delicious burgers. For the site, we wanted to bring those qualities out. In the spirit of ‘keeping it real’ we created an environment that felt like Applebee’s while showing a little greasy goodness that we all love in a great burger. Is it lunch time yet? We’re hungry just talking about it.

Working with ‘Cowboy International’ the studio worked on an extensive campaign for the re-launch of Disaboom. The campaign include a wide variety of print ads, banners, trade show materials, websites, emails and more. The approach was to be bold , engaging and of the highest quality. Disaboom works to provide the tools and guidance for those touched by disability to live active, engaged lives. They have built a community for sharing stories and personal insights, as well bringing people together. There’s nothing stronger than the power of community – which is why they are connecting the millions touched by disability to both information and each other. We were glad to do our part.

Working with the in-house team at Barney’s New York, we here at Ziegenhagen Studio worked on lots of fun print projects. The projects ranged from store signage to print ads and direct marketing. Shown here are examples of work for the Barney’s Outlet Spring Sale. We created some cool little printed ads with our own custom illustrations. We also designed the direct mail and store signage for the big event. We were tweet tweet tweeting even before twitter. How cool is that? Read more »

Ariven

You know what love doing here? Helping out growing businesses and branding them from scratch. Ariven develops high end properties for sale and rental in the Philadelphia area. Great design and quality materials are their focus. We wanted to go to back their roots and base the brand on some of the classic brownstones that Ariven gutted and refurbished. The buildings have the amazing classic rowhouse attributes on the outside that are so familiar to the area. Beautiful classic facades, cobblestone streets and vintage style lamposts. Ziegenhagen Studio decided to make those elements a focal point along with a rich red that reminds us of the brick facades.  The client was very happy and really appreciated that we focused on qualities of their properties that they never really thought to promote.
