We love us some movies and of course movie posters. We went ahead and made our own top 20 list to share with you wonderful folks. All the kids are doing it. We got the images from Graphic Exchange and IMP awards. We are sure there are some we missed or just didn’t see at all but these are the ones we like so far. There is a definite theme of simple and clean throughout. Maybe that’s just where our heads are at.
1. Moon – This is by far the favorite. We were blown away the first time seeing it. Simple, Striking, Awesome.
2. Limits of Control – Similar in vibe and shape to ‘Moon’ but with a touch of color and nicely done title.
3. Brothers Bloom – Original, interesting and beautifully illustrated. Love the small pops of color. We’re really interested in seeing this movie but it sadly left theaters quickly. I think it will have to be a Netflix rental.
4. The Wackness – Wack? Certainly not. Dope? hell yes. Good movie too by the way. How Ben Kingsley can go from Ghandi to unstable gangster to over-the-hill phsychiatrist pothead is beyond us.
5. Cold Souls – Fairly creepy. Very Cool.
6. In The Loop – Every year we see a Bass/Randish style poster for some movie yet somehow we still love them. Nice execution of the style and I guess we just like when a poster isn’t just a giant head shot of the star.
7. Synecdoche, New York – So, speaking of posters with a big head shot of the star here is another. The headshot with glowy gradient background is the thing these days. We think ‘40 year Old Virgin’ was the start of that trend. The difference here is that it’s a Charlie Kaufman movie so of course there is an interesting little twist. On top of that the typography and colors are great.
8. Girlfriend Experience – While we’re not totally in love with the typeface the overall execution is interesting and well done. Especially since this could have easily gone in an over-the-top “sexy” direction due to the theme and star of the movie. Someone decided and on taste and subtlety.
10. Inglorious Basterds – So we love this poster but like “the Hangover” it’s the amazingly fun and well done series of posters that pushes it up the list. Can’t wait to see see this. It will be an instant Tarantino classic.
11. Dungeon Masters – Oh nerds.
12. Where the Wild Things Are – Another one we can’t wait to see. Hopefully the focus groups didn’t crush the spirit of the movie. Word on the street is that may have happened. Hopefully Spike Jonze hung tough and it didn’t.
13. Flash of Genius – The way they tell the story of mans spirit against the crush of giant corporations in a single image is pretty amazing. Love the tone and saturation of the image as well.
14. The Bank Job – Probably cheating a bit here because it’s for the Japanese release of this movie but it was too cool to pass up.
15. Away We Go – Probably a little too close to the look of the opening credits for Juno but whatever. After being seen in contrast to the other posters in the window of our local Loew’s in Brooklyn we couldn’t help but like it.
16. Brothers – Absolutely no idea what this movie is about but love the simple execution. Oh, and Natalie Portman is on it. So there’s that.
17. Observe and Report – Seth Rogen, way funnier mall cop. Yes it’s another “giant head of the star” poster but funnier. We like the addition of the “grunge” texture as well.
18. Objectified – Again, no idea what this is about but a dingbat based movie poster. We dig it.
19. Public Enemies – Loved the movie and the poster is not too schabby either.
20. The Hangover – Like “Inglorious Basterds” it’s the series that make these posters great. They are all hilarious which is appropriate because, you know, so was the movie. Also, there is a poster with Mike Tyson on it. So there’s that. We’re showing this one because it has the baby and Zack Galifnjsdjkbsjkbcjb’s beard.

MOON and The Girlfriend Experience are by far my favs!
